About the CADP Foundation and CADP

Coloradans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (CADP) is actually comprised of two separate, yet affiliated, corporate entities.

What are the Two Entities?

These two separate entities are:

Although both entities are affiliated, it is necessary for CADP to have two separate organizations in order to do a broad range of work to establish alternatives to the death penalty. This Web site collectively refers to the two organizations under the name "CADP."

What are the Differences?

Although there is some overlap in the work done by each organization, certain activities that CADP does to establish alternatives to the death penalty must be done by one organization and not the other. This is primarily in the area of lobbying. Coloradans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty engages in legislative lobbying. As an organization that is eligible to receive contributions that are tax-deductible by the contributor, federal law limits the extent to which the Foundation may engage in lobbying activities. Therefore, most of the lobbying activity done by CADP and discussed throughout this Web site is done by Coloradans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. By contrast, most of CADP's educational and communications efforts described throughout this Web site are done by the charitable Foundation.

Which Contributions are Tax Deductible?

You can make a contribution to Coloradans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, the Coloradans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty Foundation, or both. A contribution to either organization will be used to support its work to establish alternatives to the death penalty. However, each organization will only use the funds contributed directly to it to carry out the specific activities it conducts as part of the overall CADP mission. Both organizations welcome, need, and appreciate your donations.
