URGE YOUR CONGREGATION ITS LEADERSHIP TO GET INVOLVED.
Join other communities of faith to pledge a total of $50,000 each year until capital punishment is abolished in Colorado. This stable base of support will enable CADP to build a stronger organization that will one day end the death penalty in our state. Some congregations can pledge only $100 or $250 each year. Other larger faith communities will be able to send $2,000 or more to CADP annually. Make an investment in the future with your pledge to CADP!
Host an education event. CADP will help you design a small or large group forum, film screening, or a presentation by an attorney, corrections official, murder victim’s family member, or other speaker.
Speak on capital punishment from the pulpit. CADP can provide background materials to help your spiritual leader craft a meaningful message that is rooted in your faith tradition.
Join the “For Whom the Bells Toll Campaign” organized by People of Faith Against the Death Penalty. If your place of worship has a bell, toll it at 6:00pm for two minutes on the date of an execution. For more details, visit the campaign web site at http://tinyurl.com/TollBells.
Encourage members of your congregation to join CADP. Have brochures and member registration forms available at the entrance of your worship space.
Ask people in your faith community to organize an abolition ministry team. These energized people can work to encourage others to become CADP members. They can staff tables at various events in your area — concerts, art shows, conferences, and fairs. These are all great opportunities to educate the public on the death penalty and make the abolition movement more visible locally.
Catholic Mobilizing Network (CMN) proclaims the Church’s unconditional pro-life teaching and its application to capital punishment and restorative justice. CMN works in close collaboration with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to prepare Catholics for informed involvement in campaigns to repeal state death penalty laws and expand or inaugurate restorative justice programs.
