How Can You Help?

  • Become a CADP Friend and volunteer to serve on a committee or subchapter, or to address community groups as part of our Speakers' Bureau.

  • Educate yourself about arguments against capital punishment by reading a book about the death penalty or viewing a death penalty website. The list of websites is a good place to begin, and The Death Penalty in America, by Hugo Bedau is a good, comprehensive book explaining why the death penalty should be abolished.

  • Register to vote, vote for candidates who do not use a tough stand in favor of the death penalty to try to win votes, and actively support the campaigns of those who oppose the death penalty or accept alternatives to it.

  • Write, call or send E-mail to members of Congress, state legislators and Governor Bill Owen when they consider issues relating to the death penalty. Visit the CADP website, at www.coadp.org, to learn how to contact these officials.

  • Join an execution alerts newsgroup (through NCADP or the ACLU) and receive notice of upcoming execution dates around the country. Write, call or send E-mail to state officials who have the power to grant clemency or reprieves, or to the state's newspapers.

  • Correspond with a death row prisoner. Write to Colorado's condemned men, or contact the Death Row Support Project, P.O. Box 600, Department C, Liberty Mills, Indiana 46946.

  • Wear t-shirts or buttons advocating abolition of the death penalty; display posters and bumper stickers that convey the message. Use comments or questions from others as an opportunity to educate them about capital punishment.

  • Make a financial contribution to CADP and other organizations working for abolition.
