Invisible Victims
The family members of those accused of murder are the invisible victims of violent crimes. They are not supported by victim assistance programs, and are confused by court procedures and struggling with all sorts of emotional reactions. In death penalty cases, they are often alienated from the defense team, which is digging for information to use as mitigation.
CADP supports the formation of a steering committee to assist relatives of one of Colorado's death row prisoners in starting a Defendants' Families Support Network. The committee could consist of representatives from these families, CADP, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, the Colorado State Public Defender's Office and other interested organizations.
